In her influential work as a Rock County (Wis.) equity manager, Dr. Atiera Coleman’10 embeds policies in the county’s administrative structure and services to ensure equitable access for everyone the county serves.

“It is a tremendous honor and truly humbling to be entrusted with imparting words of wisdom and inspiration to such a bright and accomplished group of students,” Coleman says.

As a Beloit student, Coleman was a Wisconsin Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participant (WiscAMP) and a McNair Scholar, experiences that helped lay the groundwork for her pursuit of a Ph.D. in sociology.

Coleman is also a valued former college staff member. She served as associate dean for Student Success, Equity, and Community (SSEC) and co-directed the Weissberg Program in Human Rights & Social Justice. She also led the McNair Scholars Program, oversaw TRIO programs for disadvantaged students at Beloit, and was a partner on the college’s Anti-Racism Liaison team. She earned her master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

The 173rd Beloit College Commencement will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 14, 2023, on the Middle College lawn.
